An English comic novel about a World War II expedition to a Himalayan peak.

WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY BILL BRYSON

An outrageously funny spoof about the ascent of a 40,000-and-a-half-foot peak, The Ascent of Rum Doodle has been a cult favourite since its publication in 1956. Led by the reliably under-insightful Binder, a team of seven British men -- including Dr Prone (constantly ill), Jungle the route finder (constantly lost), Constant the diplomat (constantly arguing) -- and 3,000 Yogistani porters sets out to conquer the highest peak in the Himalayas.

"We were introduced to this book whilst on an Annapurna trekking holiday around 25 years ago. It is such a funny book and if you read it when you have just been trekking it will really resonates with what you have been doing as well.

There was lots of Rum Hot Chocolate being drink on our trek and lots of singing - an amazing experience never to be forgotten and this book is on our bookshelf reminding us of our trek that many years ago.

I must bring it out and read it again."

"A laugh out loud read that captures both the hilarity of a mountain expedition gone wrong, and the majesty of the natural world at its most imposing. Heart warming and funny throughout, The Ascent of Rum Doodle doesn’t fail to keep the love of travelling at its heart. Despite its humour, this book reminds the reader of the vital work Sherpas do, as they guide mountaineers along some of the most treacherous paths known to man. With the Himalayas as its back drop, this novel is captivating from beginning to end. An absolutely joyous read."

"A must for anyone setting out on a trek in the Himalaya.

The hilarious fictional account of an expedition to conquer the mythical Rum Doodle.

You will recognize hints of the many characters amongst your trek mates and trek team.

A great antidote for camp "lassitude"!"
