Homer's great epic poem of adventure is the tale of a warrior who tries to return home to his wife and family but must first overcome a series of obstacles and escape from many traps. Butler's translation (1900) preserves the aura and atmosphere of this ancient classic.

"This is about the Trojan War between Greece Mainland and a Greek Colony Troy.
It is a VERY old story attributed to Homer and traces the cause of the War between the two protagonists, and particularly the struggles of Odysseas in his quest to return to his little island Itaca and to his beloved Penelope. It is a tale of unending struggles between man and beasts that are determined to prevent his return. It allows one's imagination to fly uninhibited by normal laws of the universe. At the same time it captures that internal human condition to desire to return HOME (faced with unenviable quests). The icing on the cake for me is that when Odysseas finally makes it home after years of struggles the only being able to recognise him is his old trusted dog!"
